U17 Tournament Wrap

With an early start the team arrived just after 8:15am for their 9:30am kickoff vs Fencibles United from Auckland. With 3 boys unavailable for Day 2 the task ahead was always going to be tough with 3 games to be had. Fencibles were solid across the park and proved to be extremely difficult to break them down. However, when the team pressed high and put them under pressure we created turnovers and half chances but were unable to convert. It didn’t help that some calls didn’t go our way and we were constantly under pressure. Fencibles were too big, too strong and deserved their win. 4 nil loss.

The final pool game was against Stop Out from Wellington. Both teams were sitting bottom of the table do this match was to determine who would play. The focus for this game was not to concede early like all over games thus far. It was a fairly even match with both sides creating chances. Stop Out scored just before halftime. Stop Out were just a little more composed and more effective in possession. Claudelands pushed for an equaliser only to be punished on the counter.

The last game of the day was played against local rivals Hamilton Wanderers. We were desperate for a win and deserved one for the tournament. Wanderers used their experienced players well and managed the game and running away with it in the end. A consolation goal was scored when Ben Sole was fouled by the keeper.

The team would like to THANK the Committee and the parents for all their support especially those whom provided their vehicles for transport. A huge thank you to Sarah Best for managing the team over the weekend.

Although the results didn’t go our way, all 18 squad members contributed both on and off the field. The attitude & effort was first class. For a team that has never been to this tournament nor played together before they can be proud of themselves.

Youth Talent Program 2021

Claudelands Rovers are excited to announce the launch of the Youth Talent Program in partnership with the Waikato Football Academy. This partnership will see a renewed focus on youth development and provide a much-needed bridge for the gap between junior football and senior football.

The program is integrated into the Federation Youth framework of football development. It focusses on the team in the first instance and the individual skill of players in another. The program will work by integrating individual development of players into a third training session during the week. It is during this third session that players will experience different coaches and learning environments, consistent with following NZF training concepts for the serious Kiwi footballer.

The Youth Talent Program 2021 focusses on retaining our current players and families whilst also building and developing the players and teams we currently have. The growth of this program over the next three years will introduce an affordable, sustainable, full year development program in line with school terms and the winter season; teams in as many grades of Federation Football offered by WaiBOP as possible;  qualified, personable coaches following a specified development protocol, endorsed by WaiBOP/NZF; teams attending National and Regional Tournaments at most levels and a program designed specifically for the Female Footballer, based on international research, offering appropriate training methodologies and age specific development opportunities for youth females.

Though ambitious, we believe the partnership between Claudelands and WFA in delivering on these outcomes is a much-needed step in the growth of youth football in our area.

Claudelands will be hosting the Youth Talent Centre Open Day in January, where players and families can come down an experience what the program has to offer. Coaches will be available to meet and run taster sessions, the Claudelands Youth Co-ordinator Keith Fraser and Waikato Football Academy administrator Christina Pegler will be available to answer any questions you have.

Keep an eye on social media for coaches announcements, Open Day dates and Trial dates for 2021.

It’s Crunch time for the Champs

NEWS | Our WaiBOP Championship team have a big game tomorrow against Taupo. A win for us puts us a point behind them, with their games done and dusted and our lads having 1 game next week.

A do-or-die for the lads tomorrow means all the support we can get from everyone involved with the club would be amazing.

This Taupo team could go down in the history books as up there with the 03-04 Invincibles but with your support, a ‘1’ can appear in that L Column. Having trailed just behind Taupo for most of the season, the team has been looking forward to setting up 2 massive home games where we should get more support down than the Etihad does.

Star Left Back Jaak Gerbich had this to say, ‘I hope we win’.

Clearly full of excitement, like a kid on Christmas he won’t be sleeping much tonight.

12:30 kick off at Galloway tomorrow, be there or be square
